Common questions
Who can take the PMP exam?
PMI's published pattern asks for two things: project-managing experience that fits one of the education tiers — five years with a secondary diploma, four with an associate-level qualification, three with a bachelor's degree, or two with a degree from a PMI GAC-accredited programme — plus 35 hours of project management training. PMI reviews every application and makes the final determination. The Why PMP? page has a short self-check that reads your answers against the same pattern.
What are the 35 contact hours, and how does this course document them?
The PMP application asks for 35 contact hours of project management training. This course is on-demand video: complete all sections of the course, and Milestone Professional Development Institute issues a digital certificate recording your 35 hours of training, to keep with your application records. The certificate rests on completing the training — the end-of-course assessment is a readiness check, and your certificate does not depend on its result. On-demand training remains an accepted route — the December 2026 restriction covers live instructor-led hours.
What is free, and what is paid?
Free, with no account needed: the full practice bank — 770 questions across timed mock exams, topic quizzes and the Formula Trainer — plus the glossary and the study plans. Paid: the video course itself, at the site-direct price here or on Udemy. The practice tools stay free whether or not you enrol.
What if the course is not for me?
Purchases here carry a 30-day satisfaction refund: if the course is not for you, email us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. No progress conditions, no questions.
What does the exam itself look like?
One sitting of 180 questions in 240 minutes, with two 10-minute breaks built in. The July 2026 Exam Content Outline weights the domains People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%, spread across 26 tasks.
How do my practice results work?
Every attempt is scored by ECO task, and your results build a personal re-study list — weakest task first, each row naming the lectures that cover it. Questions you miss collect in your My Misses deck, and leave it once you answer them correctly twice in a row in review sessions. Your progress and your deck live in this browser.
The PMP proves you can lead a project — any way it runs.
- The Project Management Professional (PMP)® — a certification for experienced project leaders
- Validates that you can lead and deliver projects
- Predictive, hybrid and agile ways of working
- Not tied to one methodology, one industry or one country
- Issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI)
- The professional association for project management, founded in 1969
- Publisher of the PMBOK® Guide
- Publisher of the Exam Content Outline the PMP is tested against
What the PMP proves
- PMI frames the PMP as proof of project leadership in any way of working
- The current exam tests all three:
Predictive leadership
Plan-driven projects — scope, schedule and budget agreed up front, then delivered against the plan.
Hybrid leadership
A deliberate blend — predictive where certainty helps, adaptive where the work is still being learned.
Agile leadership
Work delivered in short cycles, with the team led through the work rather than managed from above.
What holders reported earning
- From PMI's salary survey of project professionals
- Respondents reporting their own pay
- A survey describes the people who answered it
- Not a forecast of any one person's salary
United States — median reported salary
A difference of nearly 24% between the two US medians.

The demand for project professionals
PMI's 2025 workforce model counts the global project profession — and projects a wide gap by 2035.
■ 39.6M — project professionals in the workforce today · ■ up to 29.8M — additional professionals needed by 2035

Who can apply — the eligibility pattern
PMI asks for two things: project-managing experience that fits one of these education tiers, plus 35 hours of project management training.
Plus 35 hours of training
- Project management training from an eligible provider
- Or an active CAPM® — also covers this requirement
- The course on this site is built to document exactly these 35 hours
- PMI counts time spent managing projects in a professional setting, within the last 10 years
- Overlapping projects are not double-counted
- "Project Manager" does not have to be your job title
- From 1 December 2026, live instructor-led hours count only from PMI Authorized Training Partners, China Registered Education Providers or accredited programmes
- On-demand training remains an accepted route
- Requirements as published by PMI (checked October 2026)
- Confirm the current wording at pmi.org before you apply
Check your own pattern — three questions
- The same check PMI offers on its own site, in our own form
- It reads the published requirements against your answers — nothing more
- Guidance only, from PMI's published requirements
- PMI reviews every application and makes the final determination — this check is not a verdict on any application
The exam at a glance
What the exam is made of
- The mix changed with the July 2026 Exam Content Outline, in force since 9 July 2026
- Business Environment more than tripled its share
- The exam now spreads across 26 tasks instead of 35
- Preparation built on the old weights is aimed at an exam that no longer exists
Exam format and domain weights: PMI PMP page and the July 2026 Exam Content Outline.
A study plan to your date
- Pick the date you are aiming at — the course is laid against your calendar
- Sections in order, a quiz closing every topic
- Both mock exams and a final review stretch before the day
- Planning help: the pace adjusts to the date you choose
- No plan can promise a result
Where the credential sits in a career
- A common progression in project work
- Titles vary by employer — no path is promised
- The figures under the path are what surveys recorded at points along it
Sources: US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook (2025); PMI, Earning Power, 14th edition (2025). Survey medians describe respondents, not any individual's pay.
After the exam — keeping the PMP
- The credential is maintained with 60 PDUs every three years
- PDUs are professional development units
- Earned through learning, teaching, mentoring and similar activities
Start where you are
